Experience one of the great railway journeys of the world

The Kyle Line begins in the Capital of the Highlands, Inverness, and ends in remote Kyle of Lochalsh, gateway to the Isle of Skye.

Along the way travellers see the farmlands of the Moray Firth, the heather covered hills of the Highlands and the beauty of the west coast as the line makes its way along the sea lochs after Strathcarron.

One option to experience the Kyle Line is as a day trip, perhaps breaking your outward journey at one of the smaller stops along the line.

Alternatively you could stay in Strathcarron, Plockton or Kyle of Lochalsh, to further explore these areas.

Top destinations: Beauly, Plockton, Kyle of Lochalsh

If you're interested in exploring the Kyle Line and in going on the Far North Line, you could base yourself at Beauly, Muir of Ord, Conon Bridge or Dingwall as alternatives to Inverness.

Trains for both lines stop at these locations, with the line splitting at Dingwall.
