We Kate and John / Highlands by Train don't gather or retain any of your personal information such as name, address, post code, date of birth, interests, or anything else regarding our website users. We don't even have a mailing list or a list of email addresses who have been in touch!

Some of the links on our website are known as affiliate links. This is how the costs of running the website is funded. It means that if you click on that link, the shop you go to will note that someone from our website has gone to their shop and if you buy something they'll credit us for that referral. It's essentially a form of advertising. We don't gather any information through that process nor are the details you submit to the shop passed back to as.

Some situations where we may exchange data:

Email. If you send us an email we will read what you have sent and reply to you. We don't add your email to a mailing list or any other record.

Feedback. If you send feedback we may publish that on the website and will attribute it to you, out of fairness, using your first name only. If you ask that we don't, we won't.

What follows is a description of how the Internet works if you're interested about how data is harvested.

Websites may record IP addresses of people who visit them. This in theory can be used to track the computer server, possibly even the individual who accessed that website. Companies such as Google use this to track use of the internet and various other things such as traffic in an area and to send targeted advertising to the computer etc. Governments and other organisations sometimes use this to monitor what citizens are saying etc.

When you follow links to other websites, Youtube, Google, social media or other such services from our website please be aware that they will be gathering much more information and using it in ways different to our website. Check their websites privacy notice if you have any concerns and consider everything you do on the internet to be traceable by someone if they try hard enough.

What follows is a description of our understanding of how the Internet works if you're interested about how data is harvested.
