Beauly

Beauly is an attractive, thriving and popular large village on the River Beauly where you can happily spend half a day and is a popular choice for accommodation.

It has a selection of high quality independent shops where you can be sure to enjoy a browse and find a gift or two, including the award winning Old School Beauly and the country tailor and outfitters Campbell's of Beauly.

It also has the shortest station platform in the UK so make sure you're in the right carriage to get out!

Beauly would also be a nice location to base yourself for further train travel on the Far North Line and the Kyle Line, as an alternative to Inverness.

Where to visit

BEAULY PRIORY

The Priory was founded around 1230 by monks from France. Today the building is a ruin, however most of the main chapel remains, if roofless.

The North Transept is the best preserved section and retains its roof to give an idea of how the structure would have looked when complete.

Here are details of a pleasant one hour walking route taking in the priory and the river.

ROBERTSON'S FARM

If you would like to see Highland Coos, 15 minutes’ walk north from the centre of the village is Robertson’s Farm.

Here you can meet Katie Morag and Jamie MacKenzie Fraser, their two Highland Cows, and pop in to their Farm Shop while you’re there.

BEAULY SHINTY CLUB

Shinty is a traditional team sport which uses sticks and a ball and has been played in the Scottish Highlands for centuries and in Beauly since 1892.

If you are interested in seeing a game of shinty there is a pitch at Braeview Park. Details of fixtures can be found here or wonder down to the park to perhaps catch a look at a practice session.

Beauly Holiday Park (1.1 miles/1.77 km)

We have included this for those who want camping. However, from the station it is in the opposite direction from the village centre, so to look around or eat in the village will involve a lot of walking back and forth. There is a Co-op near the train station for supplies.
