If you are not able to visit the Highlands in person but would still like to enjoy its landscape, culture and heritage, we have brought together this collection to experience.


We have tried to include a wide variety of things so we hope there is something for everyone. Read on for wildlife and the outdoors, music, sport, museum collections, virtual whisky tasting and more!

Highland Mainline

MyMuseum, Culture Perth & Kinross

Explore the collections in the care of Culture Perth & Kinross, who manage Perth Museum and Perth Art Gallery. This digital collection has hi-resolution images and 3D objects including of historic Perth and the artist J D Fergusson.


Branklyn Garden, Perth 

Cared for by the National Trust for Scotland, this is said to be the finest two acres of garden in the country. Join people who work here as they explain why they love the garden.


The Hermitage, near Dunkeld & Birnam

This magnificent forest is managed by the National Trust for Scotland. It is part of the Dunkeld Path Network. The Trust has developed a tranquil collection of 1 hour videos of sounds from the forest. Choose from river sounds, waterfall sounds, forest sounds or calming nature sounds.


Pitlochry Dam and Hydro Power Station

The Dam Visitor Centre and Salmon Ladder are a key part of Pitlochry. Join SSE Energy for a virtual tour of the power station.

Blair Castle & Gardens, Blair Atholl

This is a picturesque white castle dating from 1269 set in beautiful grounds with mountains in the background. It is the seat of the Dukes of Atholl and home to Europe's only private army, the Atholl Highlanders.


Watch the Atholl Highlanders Parade 2024 and then go on a virtual tour of Hercules Garden, the 9 acre walled garden.

Camanachd (Shinty)

Shinty is a traditional team sport which uses sticks and a ball and has been played in the Scottish Highlands for centuries, in Newtonmore since 1877 and in Kingussie since 1890.


Newtonmore and Kingussie are very successful clubs, having won the Camanachd Cup 35 and 26 times respectively. The Camanachd Association have uploaded 2025 Full Games and you can watch a Kingussie vs Newtonmore match

Inch Marshes RSPB Nature Reserve, Kingussie

This spectacular wetland is one of Europe's most important and is the best place in Scotland for breeding curlews. Take a tour with Sam McCready, Curlew LIFE Project Officer.

Highland Wildlife Park, Kicraig

This popular attraction is home to a wide range of animals including bison, wolves, snow leopard, polar bears and tigers. You can meet some of them with the park's Meet Our Animals Playlist.

The Cairn x Admiral Fallow - The Cairn

Founded in 2002, The Cairn near Aviemore is the first distillery to be built in the Cairngorms National Park for more than a century. They have collaborated with Admiral Fellow, a musical group based in Glasgow to produce a song and music video.

At 1245 meters (4,084 feet) this is the sixth highest peak in Britain. The mountain is popular with hill walkers and as a winter sports resort, as well for its funicular railway. You can watch a range of live mountain webcams.

Dingwall Museum

Dingwall is a busy market town and its museum is housed in the former toll booth with a square tower. The museum's collection is being digitised so you can explore it from home.

This is one of the most remote parts of Europe

The North Coast Visitor Centre, Thurso

The Visitor Centre houses a museum telling the story of the county of Caithness. Exhibitions include Pictish artifacts and the nearby Dounreay nuclear power station. You can read their collections blog for insight into various of their treasures.


Wolfburn Distillery, Thurso

Wick Heritage Centre

This museum, which deals with the herring past and general history of Wick, has made available digitisations of its collections as well as Wick Voices, where you can listen to locals talking about their lives and memories e.g. Agnes Grant who was born in 1911 and reminisces about her life as a herring girl.  You can also join them online for their Wick Heritage Trail and Wick Harbour Heritage Trail.

Isle of Raasay Distillery

Hopping over from Kyle of Lochalsh to the Isle of Skye and on to the Isle of Raasay, we find the Isle of Raasay Distillery offering a virtual tour and virtual whisky tastings.

West Highland Line

Glenarn Garden, Rhu, near Helensburgh

Join the owner Sue Thornley for two tours of this 10 acre garden which is open to the public under Scotland's Gardens Scheme. It includes collections of rhododendrons and magnolias, a rock garden, a vegetable garden, and views over the Gareloch. Filmed in April 2020 and May 2020 (turn the volume up for these).


St Conan's Kirk, Loch Awe

This church is an architectural feast, mixing an impressive range of styles. Features include the cloisters, a Norman archway, stone carvings, and stained glass windows. The Friends of St Conan's Kirk have produced this short compilation video of some of its features.

Ben Cruachan and the Cruachan Power Station, Falls of Cruachan

The mountain is known as the hollow mountain on account of the hydro power station inside. You can take a virtual tour of the power station.

North Pier Pontoon webcam, Oban 

Oban is a wonderful resort town situated on an attractive and sheltered bay and overlooking the nearby islands. It is known as the seafood capital of Scotland and gateway to the isles. The bay is calm and a popular place for yachts to stop.

Dunollie Museum, Castle & Grounds, Oban

Dunollie castle is a medieval ruined castle on the cliffs with wonderful views.


You can access a range of brief virtual tours on their website: Dunollie Castle - Interior, Dunollie Castle Hill, 1745 House Museum & Kettle Cafe, and Gardens in Bloom. They also have this bilingual guided tour in Gaelic and English.
